Residents in Whitefield 'adder' shock this morning..

Residents outside a block of flats in North Manchester had a shock this morning when a python was spotted rising from a grid outside.

Members of the public managed to catch the snake at Shorecliffe Rise in Whitefield with the help of an off-duty police officer.

The python, who officers nick-named Monty, was then taken in 'custody' and the RSPCA was called.

The owner has since been traced.
