A prisoner who escaped while being escorted at a hospital has been found and is back in custody, police said.

On Monday, Greater Manchester Police appealed for the public's help to trace Jonathan Windsor, 31, who they said "escaped lawful custody while being escorted by prison staff".

A statement posted on a force Facebook page said Windsor was known to have links across the North West, including south Manchester.

Members of the public were urged not to approach him but to contact police if they saw him.

Officers were reported to be carrying out enquiries around Salford Royal Hospital on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, a spokesman for the force said the HMP Forest Bank prisoner had been found.

The spokesman said: "He was found overnight and is now back in custody."
