A pre-trial hearing has been held for Premier League footballer Benjamin Mendy ahead of his retrial for sex offences.

Mendy, 28, was excused attendance at Chester Crown Court for the 30-minute hearing before Judge Steven Everett, the Recorder of Chester, which covered legal matters which cannot be reported ahead of the trial.

In January, the Manchester City defender was cleared by a jury of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to four young women or teenagers, following a six-month trial.

Jurors failed to reach verdicts on one count of rape and one count of attempted rape, relating to two different women, for which he will face a retrial on June 26.

A further two-day pre-trial hearing is scheduled to begin on April 26.
