Officers investigating a shooting in Moss Side which left a man with a number of pellets in his abdomen are searching for a car they believe to be involved.

At around 10.30pm on Monday a man in his 20s was cycling along Heald Place when a car pulled up beside him and shots were fired.

He managed to cycle to safety through a ginnel and onto Heald Grove before calling the police. Officers were there within minutes but couldn't find the injured man or anyone else in the area.

Just over an hour later – hospital staff alerted officers after the man arrived in the accident and emergency department.

The man has been treated at hospital and he is starting to make his recovery.

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “Although the scene on Heald Place has now been closed down, this does not mean that our investigation has lessened at all.

“You may have seen us close to where the shooting was as we conducted house-to-house enquiries, identified CCTV opportunities and spoke to people who may be able to help us.

“We’re particularly interested in speaking to anyone who saw a car around Heald Place, has dashcam footage that may have captured a vehicle in the area at that time or alternatively has CCTV installed in their own home.

“Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a description of the car but we’re hoping, with your help, we may be able to find it and progress further with our investigation.

“Thankfully the man is going to be discharged from hospital shortly however, we could have easily been dealing with a very different set of circumstances and I cannot stress the importance of people getting making contact with us.”
