Police officer sustains 'serious head injury' in attack
Police officer in New Moston taken to hospital after being attacked.
A police officer is recovering after being attacked while attending a call in New Moston.
On Wednesday at around 5.15pm, police were called to a domestic-related incident at an address on Warbeck Road in New Moston.
Police attended and after entering the property, one of the officers, a 37 year-old man, was attacked and sustained a serious head injury.
Taser was deployed and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a serious assault.
The officer was treated at the scene and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry from GMP's North Manchester division said: "Thankfully, on this occasion the police officer involved was not more seriously injured, but this incident demonstrates the very real potential dangers that officers face on a daily basis.
"When an officer leaves the station to attend a call, they simply do not know what they might have to deal with when they arrive there.
"We are providing as much support to the injured officer and his family as we can as he recovers from this attack. The police investigation into this serious assault is ongoing and in the meantime the man who was arrested in connection with this incident is undergoing psychiatric assessment.
"I would like to thank the public for the support they have shown for this officer and for the Force following this attack, which has been greatly appreciated."
