Police officer in hospital after being hit by van in Manchester

A Greater Manchester Police officer has been rushed to hospital after being knocked off knocked off their motorbike by a van.

Emergency services were called to Ashton Old Road, Beswick on Friday morning where they found the officer with serious injuries.

That road as well as Alan Turing Way were closed for a time while the incident was dealt with.

A 60-year-old man, the driver of the van, is being held by police on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are responding to a serious road traffic collision involving a police vehicle and a van on Ashton Old Road.

"The rider of a police motorcycle has suffered serious injuries and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

"Alan Turing Way has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

"The driver of the van, a 60-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been taken into custody."
