Pep Guardiola has been named Premier League Manager of the Month after steering Manchester City to a faultless January.

City scored 16 and conceded just once as they won six consecutive league games to return to the top of the Premier League table.

Cup wins against Manchester United, Birmingham City and Cheltenham Town completed a remarkable month for Guardiola, whose team continues to compete across all four competitions.

Those results helped to secure an unprecedented milestone, as City claimed more victories (9) in a single calendar month than any club since the formation of the Football League in 1888.

Guardiola said:

“What this team achieved in January – winning all our games, despite all the restrictions we face – is remarkable.

“This just shows how focused my players and staff are. They are incredible, and I am so proud to work alongside them.

“Every single person involved deserves huge credit.”

City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan also picked up the Player of the Month award.
