Pep Guardiola has backed England to win the World Cup next year.

The Manchester City boss believes the country has the players and the manager, in Thomas Tuchel, to deliver at the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

"I would like England to be there," Guardiola said. "I don't want to pretend to be too nice but I've been here for many years and, to be part of that country, I would love it if Thomas and the people can make the last step and do it."

Asked what he thought of England's prospects, Guardiola said at a City press conference: "A lot, if you see the quality of the manager. A lot, if you see the quality of the players they have and the players that maybe will not go.

"The moment they believe it, they can do it. I think Thomas will convince them that they can do it.

"They are good in all departments, really good. With Gareth (Southgate) they made finals, semi-finals. They are close."
