An elderly woman who was hit by a van in Bury last week has died of her injuries.

On Tuesday 6 December 2022 at around 11:15am, officers were called to Walmersley Road.

A Mercedes Sprinter van was travelling down the road when it collided with an 87-year-old woman close to the junction of Wolstenholme Avenue.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the driver remained to assist officers with the enquiries. The 26-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has since been released under investigation.

Sadly the woman died from her serious injuries at the weekend and her family are continuing to be supported by specialist officers.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to get in touch to help their investigation.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV/doorbell footage from the area in the moments leading up to and before the collision took place.
