One man arrested and another charged following Wigan rapes.

Two seperate incidents in Wigan lead to arrests.

A man has been charged with rape and another arrested in two separate incidents in Wigan.

Lee Watson was charged with rape and theft and due before Wigan Magistrates today.

Shortly before midnight on Friday 4 December 2015 when a woman was approached by a man in a car purporting to be a taxi in Pemberton and raped.

In a separate incident Police have made an arrest after a woman was attacked and raped in a Wigan park. Shortly before 10.30pm on Saturday 5th December in Mesnes Park in Wigan, a 26-year-old woman was approached as she walked through the park from Market Place. A man briefly engaged her in conversation before he threatened and raped her. A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and has been bailed until 4 February 2016 pending further enquiries. Detective Sergeant Pete Carletti said: “The community have understandably been concerned about the incident however I hope they are reassured the investigation is progressing. Although an arrest has been made, I would still appeal for those with information to come forward and contact us as soon as possible.” Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
