Trafford residents are being urged to be cautious after three cases of the Omicron Covid variant were identified in the borough.

Public health experts believe it is highly likely that the number of Omicron cases in the borough will increase rapidly in the coming weeks. Trafford’s overall Covid-19 rate is steadily increasing which is also causing concern.

Helen Gollins, Acting Director of Public Health at Trafford Council, is asking residents to take steps to protect themselves and reduce transmission.

She said:

“We are worried about the increased risk that Covid-19 currently poses to our residents. Rates are rising and we know the Omicron variant is present in our borough.

“We ask everyone to do what they can to limit the spread of Covid-19 while we find out more about Omicron and its potential impact.

“It’s important that we continue to do what we can to protect the vulnerable residents in our communities.”

People who are contacts of suspected or confirmed Omicron need to self-isolate for 10 days regardless of their vaccination status or age.

Public health bosses say they recommend people do not attend events if they have any Covid-19 cases in their own household (whether or not it is Omicron).
