Northern has advised customers to check before travelling in the North West today (Sunday 14th July).

A number of rail operators are warning of disruption due to a lack of staff.

It's thought many workers aren't willing to work overtime, which timetables rely on, because of England's Euro 2024 final.

Services on some routes could be cancelled at very short notice, while others have no planned trains.

Northern is not operating on these routes, with no replacement buses provided:

  • Manchester Victoria - Clitheroe
  • Manchester Victoria - Chester
  • Lancaster - Morecambe
  • Preston - Colne

There will also be no Northern services on:

  • Manchester Piccadilly - Stoke-on-Trent
  • Manchester Piccadilly - Crewe
  • Wigan North Western - Stalybridge

The operator says ticket restrictions have been lifted during the disruption, so passengers can use any reasonable Northern route to make their journey.
