A new smartphone taxi app has launched today in Manchester, combining the user-friendliness of booking an Uber with the use of independent local taxi firms. Following the rapid growth of cab availability through smartphones in recent years, there has been a lot of uncertainty for licenced taxi businesses in Manchester. The Karhoo app arrives in Manchester two months after launching in London, where some companies have reported revenue increases of up to 30%. Firms in the North West will be hoping for similar results. Naeem Hamid from Manchester Cars; "We have seen what Karhoo has done for the industry in London. At a time when we are seeing work being taken away from local firms by other apps, Karhoo gives us the chance to get more rides that we did not have access to before."
