A woman and her 8-year-old son have had a lucky escape after a stolen car ploughed into their home in Gorton in the early hours of this morning.

Police have confirmed a chase ended with a car crashing into a house on Harrop Street just before 4:30am.

Amy White says she thought the loud bang that woke her up in the early hours was a gunshot.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP says:

"At around 4.30am this morning (Tuesday 15 June 2021), police were patrolling the Manchester area when they observed a car which was believed to be stolen.

Officers engaged in a short pursuit.

A short time later, the suspected vehicle - a black Volkswagen Tiguan - collided with a property on Harrop Street, Gorton.

Damage was caused to the property and the driver - a 43 year old man - was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He has been arrested on suspicion of disqualified driving, dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle. Following treatment he will be taken to custody for questioning."
