Police seeking mobile phone footage after Moss Side shooting
A 20 year old man was fatally injured in the Claremont Road area early yesterday
Police investigating the fatal shooting of a 20 year old man in Moss Side yesterday are seeking mobile phone footage taken at the scene.
Officers were called to the Claremont Road area shortly after midnight yesterday, finding the victim seriously injured.
He was later pronounced dead in hospital.
The incident took place after the end of the Moss Side Carnival, which had brought thousands of people to nearby Alexandra Park just hours earlier.
Police believe there may have been a number of witnesses to the incident who may have captured mobile phone footage of what happened - they're now using people to upload those videos.
An incident which took place nearby, at around 2:52am, is also under investigation and police haven't ruled out a link to the shooitng.
Several men were arrested after a fight involving knives. Several people were injured but none were seriously hurt.
Officers don't believe this latest firearms incident is linked to another shooting in Moss Side on the 29th of July.
Detective Superintendent David Meeney, of Greater Manchester Police, said:
“We are appealing to anyone who was in the Claremont Road area in the early hours of this morning, who may have seen something that could help us in tracking down the perpetrator(s).
"We know there had to be witnesses to this offence, as people made their way home from Moss Side Carnival.
“The investigation is in its early stages, but we are committed to identifying the person or persons who committed this horrendous act of violence and bring them to justice.
"We have increased patrols in the immediate area to keep the community safe."
