Two men armed with an axe and a hammer have robbed a shop in Wigan.

It happened at the McCollā€™s on Warrington Road in Lower Ince, at about 9pm on Sunday 4th February.

The men, who were also wearing balaclavas, threatened the woman working there.

When she managed to raise the alarm, one of the men yanked her hair, while the other bundled a load of cigarettes in to a Manchester United duvet cover.

They they fled the scene on foot in the direction of Windleshaw Street and Ince Green Lane.

One offender is described as a white, in his early 20s, approximately 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build.

The second offender is also described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, in his mid-20s and of medium build.

Both men were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Detective Constable Andrew Hill, of GMPā€™s Wigan borough, said: ā€œThis was a violent robbery and itā€™s shocking that a woman was subjected to this attack whilst doing her job.

ā€œThe actions of these men have left her understandably shaken and I would urge anyone with information that could help our investigation to contact police.

ā€œThe red Manchester United duvet cover used in this robbery is very distinctive and would have made the offenders stand out. If you were in the area around the time of the robbery and remember seeing anything suspicious, please get in touch so we can find the men responsible.ā€
