A man has died after a car ploughed into another vehicle and a shop on a busy street in Stockport.

Emergency services were called to Stockport Road in Marple on Tuesday morning, following the collision.

A 74-year-old man - who was driving the car - died at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed no-one else was injured, but are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Giblin from the Serious Collison Investigation Unit said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the loved ones who have lost a family member and friend in tragic circumstances.

"They are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

"Whilst we continue to investigate, we need to ensure we retrieve all the best possible evidence available to us and would urge anyone who has further information that could help us to contact us direct as soon as possible.”
