New 24/7 bus service to provide 'lifeline' for Manchester's night-time economy
The V1 and 36 services will run every hour, connecting Manchester with Bolton and Leigh via Salford
It is hoped a new 24/7 bus service will provide a 'lifeline' for Greater Manchester's night-time economy.
From Sunday (September 01) the V1 and 36 service will run at least once an hour in each direction, connecting Manchester with Leigh and Bolton, through Salford, every day of the week.
Transport bosses say the year-long trial will provide 24-hour connectivity for around 135,000 people living within a five minute walk of both routes.
It includes staff in the hospitality sectors, as well as people working in healthcare, students and logistics.
Both buses will run past the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University campuses.
Manchester's night-time economy advisor Sacha Lord said: "We've always called ourselves 24-hour party people, but we're not when transport has been stopping just before midnight."
"This is huge for the night-time economy in Greater Manchester. For me personally, this is for staff," he added.
"A lot people assume this is just for customers, but it's more important for staff. A lot of people I speak to have to pay for taxis when they finish at 2 in the morning".
"Now, they can get a ÂŁ2 bus."
