A man's been shot in Heywood.

Emergency services were sent to Pleasant Street at about 19:05 on Wednesday 21st March, following reports the man had been shot in the leg.

He's been taken to hospital where he's being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation has been launched and extra police are patrolling the streets as they ask for anyone with information to get in touch with them.

Superintendent Dave Pester of Greater Manchester Police said:

“Understandably this incident is going to cause some alarm to local people however I want to assure them that we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.

“We remain in the very early stages of the investigation and there are a number of enquiries being carried out by detectives as we speak but I would ask that anybody with information about this incident please contact police immediately.

“There is likely to continue to be a large police presence for some time as officers work at the scene and I would encourage anybody who has concerns to approach one of these officers and speak to them.”
