A man has been found guilty of raping a woman after a night out in Manchester.

23 year old Fabrice Kapena of Rome Road in Collyhurst was found guilty following a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square.

He’s been sentenced to eight years.

On Saturday 17 May last year, the 24-year-old victim was on a night out with a friend in Deansgate Locks. In the early hours, she could not find her friend so remained in Sugar Budha, and was befriended by Kapena who offered to share a taxi with her.

He stated the taxi could drop him at home and then take the victim on to her address. But when they got to Kapena's address he paid for the taxi and said he would phone for another one to take the victim home.

They went inside Kapena’s house before he started to touch her.

The victim told Kapena that she did not want this and wanted to go home before he raped her.

The victim fled the address and immediately contacted the police.

Detective Constable Sophie Swift said:

“Kapena appeared to genuinely want to help the victim get home and gained her trust after she could not find her friend. He was friendly in the taxi and claimed he would phone for another one after they arrived at his house. It was only when she went into his home she realised what he actually wanted.

“I would like to praise the bravery of the woman in helping us piece this investigation together and supporting a prosecution. Thankfully, he was caught and has been brought to justice.”
