Man, 42, dies after being hit by lorry on M56

The collision happened near Manchester on Wednesday night

A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the M56 towards Manchester.

On Wednesday night, police were called to reports of a man on the hard shoulder of the eastbound carriageway between Junction 6 for Hale and Junction 5 for Manchester Airport.

At around 9pm. it's believed that an articulated vehicle was travelling along the carriageway when it collided with a pedestrian.

A 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed, police confirmed.

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances surrounding his death.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Police are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
