Man charged with rape after woman attacked near Salford retail park

A man has been charged with rape after a woman was attacked in Salford.

Police were called to an area near Regent Retail Park on Sunday morning.

25-year-old John Hawkins, of Manchester Road, Westhoughton, is accused of one count of rape.

He will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court today.

The victim is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "John Hawkins, 25, of Manchester Road, Westhoughton, has been charged with one count of rape.

"Police were called at 7.44am on Sunday morning (30 October), to a report of a rape of a woman in her 20s near to Regent retail park, Salford.

"Hawkins will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court today (1 November 2022).

"The victim is being supported by specially trained officers."
