A man has been charged with attempted murder over a machete attack in a shop in Bolton, in front of "terrified" children.

Police were called to the store on Kentmere Road in Breightmet at around 19:50BST on Saturday 05 April, to reports of a man with a large knife.

He had reportedly carried out a "targeted" attack on another man in front of other shoppers, including children, before smashing up the aisles and fleeing the scene.

Dale Dean, who is 27 and from Upper West Grove in Ardwick, has been charged with attempted murder, affray and possession of a bladed article.

He is due to appear in court on Wednesday (09 April).

Detectives have confirmed the injured man remains in hospital.

A third man in his 30s who was arrested on Sunday has been released and no further action will be taken.
