A 50-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in Bury in 2014.

In the early hours of 14 June 2014, police were called to reports that a woman, later formally identified as 49-year-old Linda Richardson, had been found unconscious at a house on Spencer Street, Bury.

She was taken to hospital where she sadly died sometime later.

An investigation into the circumstances was launched at the time and the case was subsequently closed as it was deemed there were no suspicious circumstances.

In November 2017, officers received new information that caused police to reopen the case and today, Monday 5th January 2018, a 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury Borough, said: “Whenever new credible information comes to light, whether the case is closed or not, we have a duty to investigate it.

“We have a man in custody who will be questioned by specialist officers to aid our investigation while we carry out our enquiries and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”
