A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an 'unprovoked attack' in Davyhulme.

A man in his 20s remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital following the incident in an alleyway that runs alongside Kingsway Park, in Urmston, on Monday evening.

There is currently a police scene in place while a search is carried out by officers.

It is expected to remain there for some time.

Detective Inspector Paul Costello of Trafford CID said: “Although this appears to be an isolated attack, there will continue to be extra patrols in the area over the next couple of days, who are there to reassure the community, as keeping them safe remains our priority.

“They can also be approached by anyone who may have any further information which may be able to help us with our enquiries.

“Anyone with any information is also urged to contact 101 or the independent charity – Crimestoppers – anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
