Major fire destroys a Stalybridge mill
FIREFIGHTERS have spent the night tackling a huge fire in Stalybridge
They were called out to Ray Mill on Clarence Street at 11.43pm on Saturday, March 17.
At its peak, 50 firefighter were battling the flames.
Road closures were put in place around Clarence Street and Tame Street.
Tameside Council worked with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to clear snow off the roads so fire engines could get to the scene.
Incident Commander, Group Manager Billy Fenwick said: “Our firefighters have done a fantastic job in extremely difficult conditions to fight this fire and stop it from spreading to nearby buildings."
“Our Fire Investigation team will attend the scene either later today or early this week to try and establish a cause.”
