A lorry is involved in a serious collision on the M6.

Cheshire Police say the vehicle came off the carriageway and fell over the Thelwall Viaduct, landing on the embankment below the bridge.

The force says the driver of the lorry is not believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services are at the scene - National Highways say the incident 'is not as serious as first reported.'

Traffic is passing in one lane with a reduced speed limit, but the other three are closed because of damage to the barrier.

They're set to remain closed into tomorrow morning.

Cheshire Police say the lane closures are set to remain in place 'for some time' and motorists are advised to find alternative routes.
