A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, following a collision involving a truck and a motorbike in Bolton.

At around 12:30pm on Tuesday 19 July 2022, police received a report a serious collision on Manchester Road in Westhoughton.

The motorbike rider, a 33-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck – a man in his 60s - remained at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, later being released under investigation.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, but would also like dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments before the crash.

PC Simon Venguedasalon, of SCIU's Specialist Operation, said: “My thoughts firstly go out to the loved ones of the man who has sadly lost his life and we are doing all we can to support his family at this difficult time.

“Work is well underway to understand the circumstances of this incident and after making an arrest at the scene, there is still a thorough investigation to take place.

“That is why we’re appealing for the public to get in touch if they have any details or evidence that will help in this case to enable to piece together what is another tragic collision.”
