Life-saving bleed kit installed in memory of stabbed Burnage teenager
The family of Kyle Hackland hope the kit will save lives
A bleed kit has been unveiled at a community centre in Burnage in honour of a teenager who was stabbed to death just yards away.
17-year-old Kyle Hackland lost his life when he was attacked on Southlea Road in December 2022, since then his family have been fundraising for life-saving medical equipment.
Through various fundraisers, they've so far raised thousands of pounds, and over the weekend the first bleed-kit was unveiled which his family hope will one day save a life.
The kit at Westcroft Community Centre, which is a few streets away from where Kyle was attacked, contains a medical kit which can be quickly accessed to treat someone with a knife wound.
Kyle's 11-year-old sister Eva unveiled the kit, she told us:
"It means a lot because if we had these at the time, it could have saved his life.
"He was my brother, and he was amazing. He was there for me my whole life.
"It was like really hard without him. He's everything to me, whenever I was in trouble, he would always take the blame.
"He was there for me forever and it was like really hard to lose him.
"Now, if it happens again, and I really don't want it to happen again, hopefully, this can save someone."
The fundraising efforts, which have so far raised over £4,000 have been spearheaded by Kyle's Great Aunty Avril, she told us they now have the funds for many more bleed kits but need places to put them:
"It's absolutely amazing because we just didn't think it would happen this fast.
"We've actually got enough money to buy so many kits, now we need places to put them.
"So if anybody has a place in Burnage or the local community, just get in touch.
"We also just want to get the message out and work with local schools and educate kids as well as anything else because obviously you can either end up in prison or you end up like us, losing somebody.
"It's just unnecessary, he was a beautiful boy and we're gonna keep doing this in his memory as long as we can."
