Pupils from Banks Lane Junior School in Offerton have been cheering up local elderly Stockport residents with letters, after their Intergenerational Week event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As the children, who are aged 7 to 9, couldn’t physically hand deliver the letters, caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care delivered them during their care calls last week.

Gill, a recipient of one of the letters, said, "I started the day feeling really fed up but when my letter arrived, it really brightened my day and I now look forward to writing back.”

Clare Cliff, Head of CAREGiver Experience at Home Instead said, “We want to send a huge thank you to Banks Lane Junior School who last week sent us some letters to pass onto our clients to cheer them up.”

She continued, “We are delighted that we are able to still connect the generations, despite everything we have been going through, and we hope that the children enjoy receiving letters back from our clients in the coming weeks.”

David Moore, owner of Home Instead Senior Care Stockport also commented. He said, “I would like to applaud the many initiatives being embraced by local communities to support our older population whilst we self-isolate and socially distance ourselves, including the excellent work of Banks Junior School.”
