Kompany insists City not getting carried away after League Cup win

Vincent Kompany insists City are not getting carried away after they kicked off their treble quest by lifting the Carabao Cup.

The captain played a starring role in Sunday's 3-0 final victory over Arsenal at Wembley, claiming the second goal before being named man of the match.

The cup is the first silverware City have lifted under manager Pep Guardiola and they now aim to wrap up the Premier League title and challenge for the Champions League.

City are 13 points clear at the top of the league table and look assured of a quarter-final spot in Europe after winning 4-0 away at Basel in the first leg of their last 16 tie.

Asked if they can lift all three trophies, Belgium defender Kompany replied: I hope so but you can't take anything for granted, nothing is handed to you on a plate.

"We still have the league to play for - a couple of important games coming up now, Arsenal and Chelsea - and the Champions League, which is still a massive objective.

"We'll have to face some really tough opposition, hopefully.

"So to say we have the ambition, yes, but to say we're anywhere near, steady, take our time.''

Kompany's goal was sandwiched between strikes from Sergio Aguero and David Silva as City comfortably outclassed the Gunners.

The 31-year-old Belgian has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and the final was just his 13th club appearance of the season.

He insists he is now physically fit and feels he has the mentality of a warrior''.

"My body feels great,'' he added.

"It's a bit of a paradox. I'm lucky and gifted in a way that I've got a lot of athleticism in me and I can kind of come back from anything and still be OK.

"And, in another way, I'm a little bit unlucky because I have had a lot of injuries.

"But mentally in my nature I'm just a warrior and any challenge I kind of see as something to get stronger and help me along the way and no matter what carry on."
