Police investigating a number of knife attacks in Bury in recent days have installed a "knife arch" at a tram stop.

Three men were taken to hospital on Monday following a triple stabbing near Bury market, which four teenagers have been questioned over.

Just days later, officers began looking into reports of someone lunging at a person with a large knife at Whitefield tram stop.

Greater Manchester Police have now installed a "knife arch" at Bury Interchange, and are carrying out extra patrols.

Stop and search powers have also been increased.

In a post on Facebook, the force said: "You may have seen an increased Police presence at Bury Interchange and along the Metrolink line this week as Officers from #GMPTransportUnit have conducted numerous pro-active operations with partners from #TfGM.

"Our team are often deployed in uniform and plain clothes targeting criminality and anti-social behaviour to ensure that you remain safe when using the Transport Network.

"During our partnership operation on Wednesday evening we utilised a knife arch with numerous individuals being detained for searches and three persons being arrested for various offences."
