Investigation launched after two men die in Oldham collision

Witnesses are being urged to come forward following an investigation after two men died following a collision in Oldham yesterday

Shortly before 11am on Friday 15 April, Greater Manchester Police were alerted to a serious incident in the Royton area of the town involving a grey Ford Kuga and yellow Suzuki off-road motorbike on High Barn Street near the junction of Cardigan Street.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the rider and pillion passenger of the motorbike - men aged 20 and 21 respectively - suffered critical injuries and sadly died at the scene.

Police have informed their families and their specialist officers are working to support them.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and is assisting the forces Serious Collision Investigation Unit with their enquiries.

No arrests have been made and anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have been driving through the area and has dash-cam footage is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police.

Sergeant Phil Shaw, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "My thoughts go out to the families of the two young men who have tragically lost their lives today after this awful incident.

"We are doing what we can to understand how this collision came to be to ensure that the families of both victims are given the answers they need, and our specialist officers are offering them support at this devastating time.

"If you were in the area shortly before 11am and have dash-cam footage, or may have seen the vehicles involved in this collision, then I urge you to contact us so we can piece together as much information we can to establish the circumstances of this morning's events."
