Investigation launched after mass brawl in city centre
Police say they don't believe it is linked to the England v Colombia game
Police are investigating after reports of a mass brawl in the city centre on Tuesday evening (3rd July).
Officers were called to Piccadilly Gardens at around 8.30pm after reports of a large disturbance involving men suspected of carrying weapons.
Armed officers were sent, though police say they were deployed to provide specialist first aid.
Two men were arrested at the scene - one on suspicion of affray and the other on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. Both remain in custody.
A woman was found with injuries in the area, however it is not currently believed she sustained them as a result of this incident.
Enquiries are ongoing and at this time officers do not believe this incident was connected to the England vs Colombia World Cup fixture.
