Part of Manchester's history has gone up in flames.

Fire crews were called to the Tudor style Wythenshawe Hall museum at just after 3.30am (Tuesday) when fire broke out in the roof.

Ten fire engines battled to save the timber framed building using aerial appliances to reach the flames.

Wythenshawe Hall is a 16th-century medieval house and former stately home in Wythenshawe Park.

It was home of the Tatton family for almost 400 years and was built in about 1540.

It was built in about 1540. It was donated to local people in 1930 and has been a museum and art gallery in recent years.
