The Great Manchester Run is less than 48 hours away as 15,000 runners prepare to take on the 10k and Half Marathon.

The 10k route takes in the views of Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, the award-winning Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays, and The Lowry.

The Half Marathon route takes runners past both iconic football stadiums, joining the 10k route in exploring the famous cobbles of Coronation Street’s new set and Beetham Tower, the 47-storey skyscraper which almost marks the finish line.

Organisers of this year's Great Manchester Run are hoping the event will be a huge boost for charities after months without events.

The race was due to take place in May 2020 but had to be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chief Executive, Paul Foster, said: "After the last 18 months it's going to be great to hopefully try and restore a little bit of that and help those charities through our runners who are raising money for lots of fantastic causes.

"We're expecting tens of thousands of runners who will be raising millions for good causes as usual.

"But not only that, it will be such an emotional day and a fantastic symbol of the recovery from the pandemic. We're not all the way there yet, but I think it's going to be fantastic and I hope all the runners are looking forward to it as much as we are."
