A vigil is set to be held in Manchester for a woman who was stabbed to death in the city earlier this week.

Alberta Obinim, aged 43, died as a result of her injuries after being attacked in the Gorton area of the city on Sunday (August 18th).

As well as Alberta, two other people were injured in the attack, with one victim being left in a critical condition.

The vigil for Alberta will be held in the area close to where the family lives, and have invited the public to gather in remembrance and celebration of "the life of our dear sister".

The two victims, aged 17 and 64, were taken to hospital for treatment; the 64-year-old remains requiring urgent medical treatment, while 17-year-old's condition has been described as stable.

The incident took place on the Barnard Road of Gorton, in the east of the city. Investigations have now found that everyone involved in the attack were known to each other.

Greater Manchester Police have said that a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, and is currently being detained under the Mental Health Act.

They added that the family is being supported by Family Liaison Officers, with forensic investigators now working to piece together the events that led to the incident.
