Great Manchester Police have arrested a second man in connection with an attack on an 87-year-old.

Officers confirmed that a 24-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning (September 22nd) at an address in Royton on suspicion of kidnapping.

The suspect currently remains in police custody and is being questioned by officers

This the second arrest after a 39-year-old was detained on suspicion of kidnap; he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Last Sunday (September 15th), the pensioner was forced into a car in the Lee Street area of Oldham at around 9pm.

It is believed the man had been walking home when he was dragged into a black car and blindfolded, while perpetrators demanded his personal belongings.

He was eventually driven out of the Oldham area and pushed out of the car to be left in the Rishworth area of West Yorkshire.

The victim was able to get to safety at around 10:40pm, after seeking refuge in a nearby person's house.

Speaking on the investigation, Detective Inspector Emma Hulston from the force's Major Incident Team said enquiries were producing leads.

"We have arrested two men in connection with this shocking incident and our investigation team is making good progress in gathering evidence to establish the full circumstances," she said.

"Whilst incidents of this nature can cause alarm in the community, we do believe it was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.

"Specialist officers are continuing to support the victim and detectives are working around the clock determined to bring offenders to justice."

Meanwhile, police are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the incident, urging anyone who may have vital knowledge to come forward.

Anyone who may have been in the areas the attack took place, or who may have dashcam footage can get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 3165/150924.
