Man arrested after girl, 16, dies after being hit by car in Oldham

A man has been arrested following the death of a 16-year-old girl who was struck by a car in Oldham.

Police were called to a road traffic collision on Rochdale Road just after 1:30pm on Thursday 23 February.

Officers arrived and discovered that two cars were involved in the incident, one of the vehicles mounted the pavement and collided with a pedestrian at the junction with Crompton Street, Coldhurst.

A 16-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services.

One man in his 20s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody for questioning.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident - or may have dashcam or doorbell footage - to share it with GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
