A man has been seriously injured following a gas explosion in Gorton this morning.

Emergency services were called just after 10am to Abbey Hey Lane.

A man was rescued from the rear of the house where the explosion occurred and is said to have serious injuries.

Firefighters have been working on ensuring the street is safe since and are in the process of ensuring the property is safe as large amounts of the house were blown away.

Neighbours say they could feel a large vibration through their house and knew straight away that it would be a gas explosion.

Eric Chapburn a local resident, spoke to our reporter:

A search and rescue dog was added to the search to ensure there was nobody else in the property.

Group Manager Paul Etches of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said that “There was a small pocket of fire burning from the gas leak. The gas has now been isolated.”

“We are working closely with GMP now to try and establish exactly what happened.”

The search has now concluded and they are continuing to work with the gas board to find out what caused the explosion.
