Court appearance for man charged with stabbing detective at Durham's Frankland prison
A man has appeared in court charged with stabbing a detective during an interview at a maximum security prison.
A man's appeared in court, charged with stabbing a detective during an incident at Frankland Prison in Durham.
David Taylor, 62, formerly of Willington, County Durham, is charged with attempted murder following the incident, where a detective was stabbed in the chest during an interview at the Category A Maximum Security Prison.
Taylor appeared via a videolink for a five minute hearing before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court where he was not asked to enter a plea.
Magistrates were told that the offence was so serious that it must be sent to the crown court.
Taylor, who was not legally represented, said he would apply for bail at a later date.
In the meantime, Chairman of the Bench Colling Morris remanded him in custody ahead of his appearance at Teesside Crown Court on October 1.
The detective who was injured was with Greater Manchester Police and last month was said to be recovering at home following hospital treatment.
