Firefighters tackle huge fire at scrap metal site in Bury

People nearby have been told to keep doors and windows shut

Firefighters have been at the scene of a huge blaze at a scrap metal yard in Bury.

Crews were first called to reports of the fire at around 01:30BST on Tuesday morning (September 03).

At it's height, eight fire engines were involved in tackling the fire off Pimhole Road.

The fire has since been brought under control, although people nearby have been told to keep doors and windows shut.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 1.30am on Tuesday (September 3) eight fire engines plus a number of special appliances, including the turntable ladder and drone unit, were called to a fire involving a large amount of scrap metal at a commercial premises on Pimhole Road, Bury.

“Four fire engines remain in attendance while crews continue to tackle the blaze.

"Road closures in the surrounding area are in place and residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.”
