Firefighters tackle blaze in Romiley

Fire crews were called to a building fire in Oakwood Road, Romiley, Stockport, this morning at around 6.54.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving two timber-framed properties that were under construction.

Six fire engines and other fire service vehicles are currently on scene tackling the fire and protecting surrounding buildings.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have issued an update on the blaze:

The fire is under control and crews are continuing to extinguish it with water, pumped from a nearby canal. The incident is soon to be scaled down with some crews returning to their stations.

The area involved in the incident is a site under construction involving 11 properties.

Station Manager Pat Johnson said: “The majority of the fire is now out and firefighters will continue to dampen down hotspots throughout the morning. The entire site has been destroyed by fire and once the incident has been dealt with, we will investigate the cause.”
