The family of a Mum who was killed in a crash in Denton have paid tribute to her, as a man is charged in connection with her death.

Shortly before 1am on Monday, police were called to reports of a collision between a white BMW 220D and a pedestrian on Ashton Road, Denton.

Emergency services attended and the pedestrian - who has since been formally identified as 49-year-old Joanne Whyte - was taken to hospital where despite the best work of hospital staff, she was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

In a statement, Joanne's family said:

"Joanne Whyte - daughter of John, elder sister of John and Andrea, loving mother to Tom, Dan and Malachy and grandmother of Mia, Ethan and new baby Layla.

"Everyone who knew Joanne enjoyed her company and brilliant sense of humour. She will be missed enormously."

26-year-old Connor Faulkner of Peak Forest Close, Hyde has been charged in connection with the collision.

He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death whilst disqualified, causing death whilst unlicensed/uninsured, failing to stop, failing to report and producing cannabis.

He has been remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court on Wednesday 18 August 2021.

Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information, or those who have dash-cam footage, to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.
