Transport for Greater Manchester has laid on extra buses to help combat traffic chaos caused by roadworks on one of the main routes in to the city centre.

Regent Road and the surrounding areas have been plagued by gridlock at peak times since the schools went back, now transport bosses are putting extra buses into circulation out of its A580 park and ride facility.

Head of Customer Engagement, Sean Dyball, is urging commuters to make use of the additional services: "School children returned last week so roads are particularly busy around peak times. Have you considered one of TfGM's park and ride facilities?

"There's now additional capacity going out of the A580 park and ride, provided by First Manchester. You can access the park and ride via J23 of the M6 and J13 of the M60."

The roadworks, which started on 29th August, are set to last a year and will eventually increase capacity by up to 20% at six major junctions on and around Regent Road, Trinity Way and A57 Mancunian Way.

The £15 million improvement is known as the "Manchester and Salford Inner Relief Route improvement scheme (MSIRR)" and is being delivered by Manchester and Salford City Councils with funding from the Government’s Local Growth Fund.
