A former soldier from Manchester whose friend was killed in Afganistan is taking part in a mammoth trek to raise money for a ground-breaking support service for War veterans.

27-year-old Jason Redshaw's got together with other ex-servicemen to walk from Manchester to the cenotaph in Cornwall - in time for Remembrace Sunday.

They're fundraising for a new 'Veterans Garage' which will be based at Barton Airport.

The walk is also in memory of Elijah Bonds who was killed in December 2011 by an improvised explosive device in Helmand Province.

On their Crowd-Funding page Jason wrote:

We will set off on our journey on the 3/11/16 carrying nothing but the basics to survive including: Sleeping bag, Poncho, roll mat, Rations etc I think you get where I am going with this, lets just say we wont be sleeping in a B&B, we will sleep on the ground where we find suitable.

We will be filming the whole trip and updating you Live via Social media so you can see how we get on. Our plan is to arrive in time for Remembrance day and lay a Wreath at the memorial which is the finishing point, where we can then pay our respects and enjoy the company of Elijahs family. We will be bringing the family a gift in memory of Elijah from the garage and we will then be bringing back the plaque off the memorial which has recently been replaced in Mevagissey and now has Elijahs name inscribed. We will bring this back to the garage so we can have our very own memorial which the family have agreed is the best place for it and we are honoured with this decision.

What we are trying to achieve here is to raise vital funds for two great charities in memory of our brother Elijah Bond and at the same time raise awareness of what people on a day to day basis whether it be soldier, veteran, family or friend have to go through due to the horrors of war. So please help us achieve our goal and kindly donate, Thank you.
