Coronation Street aired its highly anticipated live episode last night to mark ITV’s 60th birthday and everything went off without a hitch, including two viewers getting hitched.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A fan called Adam won a competition on Twitter to have a message written on a chalkboard in the Rovers. His message was “Katie Lowe will you marry me?” (and she said yes!)

The proposal was shown halfway through the episode, just before an advert. The episode started with a bang, killing off villain Callum Logan within the first 15 minutes when Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) came to rescue Sarah-Louise (Tina O’Brien) and hit him over the head with wrench. Other highlights of the episode included a fight scene, romance between Roy and Cathy and even a car explosion. Prior to the episode, reports suggested the live episode may have been ruined by fans from the Manchester United football ground which is location near where Coronation Street is filmed. Despite United winning 3-0, cheering was not heard during the episode. Reaction from fans has been extremely positive, with many praising Tina O'Brien's performance as Sarah-Louise. Over 8 million viewers tuned in.
