City And United Fans Warned

United and City fans are being urged to give themselves plenty of time ahead of tonight’s two Capital One Cup clashes as for the first time in six years both clubs have home matches on the same day.

City kick off their game against Crystal Palace at the Etihad at 19.45 while United face Middlesbrough at Old Trafford 15 minutes later.

Around 100,000 fans are expected to attend the two matches which could cause severe problems with traffic in the city centre.

Peter Cushing from the Metrolink noted:

“We are used to handling multiple major events in the city on one evening – we’ve had up to two hundred thousand people at a time in the city on one day. We’ve done the planning, we’re pretty confident we’ll get everyone where they need to get to.

“If people can leave a little bit more time for their journey it will be so much easier. “
