Woman arrested after child becomes critically ill at Oldham nursery

Police believe it's an 'isolated incident'

A woman is being questioned by police on suspicion of assault and child cruelty, after a young girl became critically ill at an Oldham nursery.

The child was taken to hospital on Wednesday last week (21st September) following an incident at a premises on Maine Road.

Today (29th September) police confirmed a woman had been arrested in connection with the incident, and that they were working with Oldham Council and Ofsted to investigate what happened.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We currently believe this is an isolated incident and our Oldham Child Protection Unit are working closely with partners as part of this ongoing investigation

"We're also supporting the child's family as her condition remains serious but thankfully stable in hospital."

Officers are urging anyone with information or concerns to contact them.
