Cheshire police re-open murder case 34 years on
Veronica Anderson was found dead in her car in Warrington Sunday 25 August 1991
Detectives investigating the murder of a woman 34 years ago have renewed their appeal for anyone with any information to come forward as it approaches the anniversary of her death.
Veronica Anderson, who was known as Vera, left her home in Widnes at 10.10pm on Saturday 24 August 1991 after receiving a phone call.
Shortly after 3am on Sunday 25 August 1991, the 42-year-old was found dead in her car off Tannery Lane in Penketh, Warrington.
A murder investigation was subsequently launched by Cheshire Constabulary. But, despite numerous and lengthy enquiries plus multiple appeals, her killer has never been traced.
Now, as it approaches the 34th anniversary of Vera’s death, officers are continuing to appeal for anyone who has any information about the case to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Jessica Barlow, of the Major Crime Review Team at Cheshire Police, said:
“The unsolved murder of Vera Anderson remains a very topical and emotive investigation in the Warrington and Widnes area. As with all of Cheshire Police cold cases, they are never closed or forgotten.
“We welcome any new information or intelligence regarding the murder of Vera Anderson, and we hope that by acknowledging the anniversary of her horrific murder that this may encourage people to speak out and contact us.
“We continue to support Vera’s family via the deployment of specialist officers from our Major Crime Review Team.”
